Join healthcare providers, industry leaders from non-profit, insurance, and oral healthcare companies to discuss their organizations that support individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Hear from the founder of Special Olympics, Special Smiles program, Colgate, Delta Dental Foundation, and Project Accessible Oral Health. They have partnered to launch a national campaign to raise awareness and promote inclusion and health equity for a neurodiverse population. This campaign aims to catalyze a movement that will advocate for and ultimately reduce health disparities for this critically underserved population.

Description:

Individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities face many barriers in accessing quality oral healthcare. One of the main reasons is due to lack of adequate dental training. This session will provide an overview of practical strategies that can be applied during patient care in the conventional dental office. A holistic approach will be examined incorporating the needs of both the patient and caregiver. Successful methodologies for the entire dental team will be addressed. The tips and tools will be presented by an interprofessional team, simplifying approaches to comprehensive care for this underserved population.
