This third and final webinar of 2021 will help the associate just starting out or established doctor focus on preparing themselves, their team and their business to tackle challenges head-on.
As 2021 comes to a close we take a look back to the challenges healthcare owners’ faced during the COVID Pandemic and discuss ideas to plan ahead and be prepared for any challenges to come.
In this interactive webinar, Fortune Management Executive Business Coach, Gerilyn Alfe, DMD, MBA, will discuss the importance of mindset, intentions, culture, and vision. The most successful dental practices work to protect these assets. As a dental practice business owner from 1995-2017, Dr. Alfe and her practice weathered worldwide economic downturns in 1998, 2000, 2001 and again in 2007-2010. Dr. Alfe will talk about how she and her team not only survived but thrived during these tough times, by
• Strengthening their emotional mindset • Improving their emotional intelligence • Focusing on their vison and "why" • Protecting the culture of their practice • Using "downtime" as an opportunity to cross-train, improve systems and re-set their goals
These concepts are simple, but not always easy to implement as the leader. Dr. Alfe will share tried-and-true exercises that can help you excel —even in turbulent times!

Course #: 2050 Date: 11/27/2021 Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm Course Info: Full Day Speaker(s): Andrew Reingold
Have you ever had that patient walk into your office who needs a lot of dentistry, but you just didn’t know where to start? Maybe you were skeptical that the multiple chips and wear on the occlusion came from “the one time they bit into their fork funny”? Or should you be concerned if the patient tells you they “had TMJ, but it’s all better now and my jaw doesn’t make noise anymore”? Even when you think you know how to make the teeth look better, do you wonder, “will these beautiful veneers be built to last” or “can I really use direct resins for this patient”? Decades ago, Dr. Peter Dawson defined check-lists to be more predictable and efficient with even the most complex dental cases. Today, his classic principles resonate even more with the synergy of new technology available. This program provides both the systematic approach of Complete Dentistry and the digital dentistry tools to realize the same successful outcomes, better, faster, and more robust than ever before.
Learn:
• the benefits of the systematic approach of Complete Dentistry • about digital splints: how, when, and why to choose one design over another • the signs and symptoms of occlusal disease, and how and when to proceed safely with treatment • to increase case acceptance with digital dentistry as an education and marketing tool

The Foundation for Airway Health Airway Summit brings together leading dental educators, scientific academy representatives, allied health organizations, and members of the public to offer information about what the dental teams must know about sleep/airway and what they can do to impact positive health change for patients. Topics include the importance of airway in dental sleep medicine, restorative dentistry, orthodontics, myofunctional therapy, TMD, physiological monitoring, public health initiatives, and more.
Unrecognized, ”Hidden” airway problems are expressed by poor sleep and chronic disease and inflammation, learning difficulties, performance issues, and behavior problems. Currently, only 15% of airway problems are recognized. Dentists can and must play a front-line role in the diagnosis and treatment of airway dysfunction. Attendees at the Airway Summit will learn about the emerging importance of airway health and sleep in dental practice. How to improve treatment outcomes, join the fight against chronic disease, and expand the professional practice in these areas are discussed.
Learn to:
• screen patients for airway and sleep issues and follow the ADA recommendations • understand the connection between airway and sleep issues and chronic medical and dental health disorders • be aware of how airway and sleep issues affect growth and development and learning • include airway and sleep screening for better outcomes in restorative dentistry • be an essential part of a new, effective treatment for Alzheimer’s and cognitive loss • understand the critical role of the dental team in the co-treatment of airway/sleep issues
The Foundation for Airway Health is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. The vision and desire to bring awareness to airway problems and their treatment resonated in the hearts of patients, family members, and pioneering medical professionals for decades. After witnessing the lack of public knowledge about airway problems, health care professionals came together and joined with those who experienced personal airway adversities to form the foundation and to help the victims of airway problems.

There are many good reasons to provisionalize dental implants for patients, including improving dental esthetics and function, tissue contouring and preservation, immediate restoration, and eliminating transitional removable partial dentures (flippers). Patients appreciate and value these fixed restorations. Implants are easier and faster to provisionalize than teeth when a streamlined workflow and appropriate materials are used. In this workshop, participants will provisionalize a single anterior tooth using a direct “chairside” impression and also provisionalize a 3-unit fixed bridge using a prefabricated, laboratory-processed shell. This hands-on workshop highlights different materials and techniques for the dental practice. Skills, materials, and techniques used for this exercise are directly applicable to situations for a digital workflow.

Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a clinically challenging condition affecting as many as 20-40% of children’s newly erupted permanent teeth. MIH may affect one or all of the molars, as well as the incisors. It is characterized by demarcated opacities ranging from white and cream to yellow and brown, sometimes surrounded by normal enamel. Sadly, these teeth suffer a 10-fold higher risk of developing caries, and the high porosity and low mechanical resistance lead to rapid enamel breakdown, sometimes occurring immediately after the eruption. MIH affected teeth are often hypersensitive, difficult to numb, and have poor bond strength to resin restoratives. Fortunately, the development of new materials offers promising new treatment options that are minimally invasive and well-tolerated by patients. This program reviews emerging clinical treatments like Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) with glass ionomer cement (GIC), Hall Technique, MI Paste, etch bleach seal, and Icon Resin Infiltration to manage MIH.
Learn:
• the clinical challenges of managing MIH • the clinical use of SDF, ART, and the Hall Technique • the clinical use of MI Paste, Icon Resin Infiltration, and Etch Bleach Seal

Fluorescence Enhanced Theragnosis in Minimal Invasive Cariology
The concept of 'Minimally Invasive Dentistry” within cariology refers to an actualized diagnosis process, to a different disease classification, requiring an actualized decision making process and treatment options. Fluorescence is a well established scientific entity with long standing evidence and applications for both diagnosis and treatment approach. Modern technology empowers the clinician today to differentiate among active versus inactive caries, better control the hard tissue reparative process (from infected dentin removal to affected dentin disinfection), step away from “drill and fill”, prove treatment completion and last but not least enhance a different patient attitude, motivation and collaboration support. The actual call to Evidence Based Dentistry and Shared Decision Making deserve and need the support granted by Fluorescence Enhanced Theragnosis. Over the past 2 decades different fluorescent tools made their way to clinics supporting the farwell from the classic Black concept. Market penetration may have been hindered by a reduced graduate education and technologic limitations. The current lecture will prove the concept of a new technology with the set goal to satisfy the requirements raised by: science, clinics and patients and help reunite the three in harmony celebrating higher success rates.

Hall Technique and Atraumatic Glass Ionomer Strip Crowns
There is increasing demand from parents for minimally invasive treatment options for the restoration of dental caries in young children. An evidence-based, minimally invasive treatment option for the management of severe early childhood caries is the Hall technique (HT). This approach is particularly advantageous for young apprehensive patients, who may otherwise require sedation for traditional surgical interventions to place stainless steel crowns (SSCs). An emerging treatment modality that expands on the HT concept of sealing carious lesions from cariogenic biofilm is atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) using a glass hybrid restorative system and strip crown forms. This offers a non-invasive yet esthetic treatment alternative to prefabricated cosmetic crowns in young children with severely decayed primary incisors. This hands-on workshop walks participants through the step-by-step clinical placement of HT SSCs and glass ionomer cement (GIC) ART strip crowns. Attendees increase their confidence and mastery of these minimal interventions, helping them expand access to care while reducing cost and risk for pediatric patients.

Currently, the diagnosis and treatment of cracked and fractured teeth is largely symptom-based and often a sad, end-stage diagnosis. The fracturing process is one of dentistry’s last great mysteries and is poorly understood throughout the generalist and special-ist dental community. This program teaches you to understand and diagnose pathologic cracks utilizing magnification and other modalities and treat them long before symptoms arise or the tooth becomes unsalvageable. Learn routine identification of early cracks and Class II saucer-shaped nonretentive preparation and Fissurotomy Class I, which significantly departs from the G.V. Black preparations that are a leading cause of cracked teeth. A published approach to diagnosis based on 16X magnification, predictable step-by-step treatment, endodontic and periodontal implications, and when to extract are all reviewed in this exciting program.
Learn:
• about early tooth fracturing based on high-level magnification • why new Class II cavity preparations and other modalities are crucial to prevent eventual tooth fracture • a blueprint for diagnosis and treatment of complete and incomplete fractures • the Fissurotomy, Calla Lilly, and Overlay preparations for Class I restorations

Are you placing the most acceptable crowns? The crown revolution of the past decade is stabilizing! PFM and cast gold alloy are nearly dead- unfortunately! Should you still be using them? We have in-vivo clinical research on crowns - 22 years on zirconia-based, and 11 years on full-zirconia and lithium disilicate. Which are best? Are the new “esthetic zirconias” as acceptable as the former full-strength ones? Are digital scanners mandatory and better than elastomers? Should you have a scanner? Techniques, materials, devices, and technologies related to crowns will be shown and discussed.
Learn to:
• list and compare the indirect crown restoration now available • discuss current crown techniques, and the materials necessary for them • decide if you need to change the crown types you are using • implement the respective changes into your practice

Contemporary Endodontics: Conservative and Predictable Management of Curved Canals with Controlled-Memory Files
Managing the delicate curvatures of root canal systems is often one of the most challenging aspects of predictable endodontic treatment. Too often, attempts at their navigation result in overly large accesses excessively straightened canals, and unnecessary loss of tooth structure. Like other aspects of modern dentistry, contemporary endodontics intends to treat disease while increasing the conservation of tooth structure. This hands-on course reviews the advancements in modern endodontics, including changes in access design and canal shaping. It improves understanding of instrumentation with heat-treated and controlled-memory files for predictable management of curved canals.

ESTUDIO IN VITRO.

Interdisciplinary dentistry has been an elusive concept for many years. Comprehensive philosophies, like Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy (IDT), have helped overcome many challenges. Today, many exciting and game-changing advancements have allowed interdisciplinary therapy to evolve radically. Dental teams are more closely partnering with their counterparts in medicine through an airway focus to improve the quality and quantity of their patient’s lives. Individual team members are becoming digitally empowered with enhanced diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, and more efficient and effective interdisciplinary collaboration. This program focuses on the thirty-five-year evolution of a time-proven interdisciplinary approach and looks at the even more promising next generation of IDT. Some exciting interdisciplinary options include Digital Smile Design (DSD), High-Tech Clear Aligner Therapy, and Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Therapy (SFOT).
Learn:
• the evolution of interdisciplinary dentistry over the last 35 years • digital technology to strengthen and simplify the interdisciplinary process and results • how an “Airway-Focused” approach empowers the IDT team to treat major underlying health issues

Nearly 28 years since the introduction of Nickel Titanium Rotary Files to endodontics, we’ve learned much about the clinical strengths and limitations of these outstanding instruments. As a result of recent improvements in metallurgy, enhanced designs, and innovative rotary file motions, we now need to understand how these changes affect clinical instrumentation. Obturation improvements allow more efficient obturation techniques at lower costs. Advances on both instrumentation and the obturation front enable us to create more efficient instrumentation and obturation techniques that are safe, simple, and predictable. During this presentation, emphasis is placed on access, irrigation, instrumentation, and obturation.
Learn:
• how rotary file design, metallurgy, and motion influences instrumentation safety and efficiency • the advantages of bioceramic based obturation and clinical techniques for its implementation • how instrumentation and obturation protocols can be combined as a comprehensive system to achieve both efficiency and predictability in most clinical situations

There are many ways to contribute to practice growth, but the surest way is to get patients to accept more of the treatment that we recommend for their benefit. It is frustrating when patients question the need for care and ask to delay it or not do it. In this program for the entire team learn how to increase hygiene productivity by appropriately enlisting patients in improved periodontal care. Verbal skills can raise the perceived value of restorative care and lead to greater acceptance of treatment. When patients have this higher perceived value, they begin to transition from insurance dependence to insurance independence. When patients express some reservations through questions, there are calculated ways to turn these objections into opportunities to provide the care for them. Increasing patients’ acceptance of treatment not only increases productivity but it also makes dentistry more fulfilling and fun. As the scope of treatment becomes more comprehensive, we find that we no longer fix teeth but change lives.
Learn:
• about patient engagement and how exceeding expectations inspires greater confidence • to effectively communicate the benefits of treatment • how treatment acceptance begins with an increased value of periodontal care in hygiene • the successful methods of recommending treatment and overcoming patient objections
