THE ROLE OF BITEMARK EVIDENCE IN EXCLUDING SUSPECTS IN CRIMINAL CASES
Competent prosecutors and investigators consider all available evidence in a criminal investigation. Bitemark evidence, while controversial in some contexts, can serve a valuable role particularly in excluding individuals from suspicion. Forensic odontologists agree that when specific characteristics of a bitemark cannot be matched to a suspect, that indi-vidual can be excluded as the source of the injury. Features such as arch size, missing or rotated teeth, and unique tooth morphology may allow the examiner to form an opinion that a given individual could not have inflicted the injury. This exclusionary value is especially helpful in cases involving closed populations, such as institutional settings or small communities, where suspects can be quickly eliminated. Even when a suspect cannot be excluded, that information can still be useful for guiding an investigation. Pattern injuries, including bite- marks, are just one of many forms of evidence that contribute to building a comprehensive picture in crimin

TEETH DON’T LIE: TWO EXTREME CASES
This presentation highlights the critical role of forensic dental evidence in high-stakes identification scenarios. Through two compelling real-world cases one involving a severely charred body identified using only two teeth, and another centered on a widely publicized case of misassigned remains we will explore the reliability, speed, and precision of dental identification methods. These cases illustrate how dental analysis can deliver definitive answers when other forensic tools fall short. Special attention will be given to age estimation, postmortem accuracy, and the demands of rapid response under pressure.

Modern endodontics is evolving beyond mechanical shaping and traditional access designs toward a biologically and anatomically centered approach that respects the natural complexity of the root canal system. This course is designed for practitioners who want to elevate their endodontic outcomes by understanding and working with the tooth’s internal anatomy, not against it. Through a combination of concise theory and extensive hands- on training, participants learn how to recognize, interpret, and treat the three-dimensional complexities of root canal systems using evidence-based, anatomy-guided techniques. Topics include conservative canal instrumentation compromising less dentin, simple and comprehensive irrigation protocol, and obturation strategies that fill, not force, into anatomical spaces. Participants will not only learn the principles behind anatomically centered endodontics but also practice and test these techniques on simulated and extracted teeth, gaining practical confidence in tools, materials, and decision-making for everyday clinical scenarios.
Learn to:
understand the biologic principles essential for lasting endodontic success
recognize the limitations of traditional file systems that create only round preparations
analyze the drawbacks of conventional sealers and obturation methods

Description:

Unlock the fastest, most reliable path to practice growth! Dr. Katz shares proven strategies to dramatically increase treatment acceptance for restorative and periodontal care in this high-impact presentation. Many practices unknowingly hinder their growth by lacking clarity and consistency in their diagnostic criteria, leading to under-diagnosis, patient confusion, and lost opportunities. Learn how establishing uniform diagnostic standards can reveal far more opportunities for patient care and discover how Artificial Intelligence can enhance this process even further. Combined with improved treatment presentation skills and patient-centered, benefit-driven communication, these techniques lead to higher case acceptance, stronger patient loyalty, and a thriving referral network. Drawing from over 20 years of coaching clinicians, Dr. Katz reveals why actual practice growth stems from elevating clinical performance not just “practice management” and why your success depends on delivering care that consistently improves your patient’s health and lives.
Learn:
to discover the most effective methods to grow your practice sustainably
to understand the critical role of consistent, calibrated diagnostic criteria
about the concept of “protective” diagnosis and strategic treatment planning
