Description:

This course reviews antimicrobials and their appropriate use, diabetes mellitus and the drugs used in management, oral anxiolytics for dental patients, and local anesthesia. Relevant pathophysiology of infections and diabetes mellitus is incorporated into the review of pharmacotherapeutics used. The use of common oral anxiolytics and their place on the anesthesia, pain, and anxiety control spectrum is discussed. Finally, there is a brief and targeted review of the safe and efficient use of local anesthesia in practice. The course emphasizes salient points associated with these topics intended to benefit all members of the dental team and the patients we manage.

Description:

This course reviews antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications seen in dental patients, along with recommendations for peri-operative management. Common cardiovascular medications and medications used in the management of psychiatric conditions are discussed with an emphasis on dental interactions and management. Precautions with the use of prescribed and over-the-counter medications in the elderly dental patient are examined. The program concludes with a brief review of QT interval prolongation, what it is and its relevance in dentistry.
