Description:

Current tendency among some dentists is to remove broken-down teeth and place implants. BUT natural teeth have some advantages over implants. They move in the bone as occlusion matures. They don’t negatively influence the stability of occlusion. Learn how building-up and restoring teeth can be simple and provide years of service. How is this done? Making the best tooth preps, effective pulp capping, tooth disinfection and desensitization, caries preventive materials, making adequate retention for build-ups, bonding agents, proven and non-abusive pure titanium pins, endo only, when necessary.

What’s new for 2027, and more importantly what is new that looks promising? This is a time when digital concepts and products are competing with proven analog ones. It is difficult for dentists to determine if a new product is better than a previously successful one. Is hydroxyapatite better than fluorapatite? Is a three-unit bridge better or worse than an implant and a crown. Composite is better – light-cure, dual-cure, auto-cure? Can lasers improve root canal treatment? Many 2027 materials, devices, techniques, and concepts are discussed and compared with previous products.

The digital revolution and the current dominance of ceramic crowns have been a major change in dentistry! This change is good but NOT without challenges. Deeper crown preps are necessary, computer die spacing requires cariostatic cements, ceramic crown materials are great esthetically but do not wear like teeth requiring occlusion concepts that stabilize occlusion, numerous types of zirconia and lithium disilicate necessitate dentists and techs to communicate about materials. Make the best crowns possible and mediate challenges.
