HPV and its Role in Neoplasia

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major independent risk factor for head and neck neoplasia and significantly influences the epidemiological landscape of oral and oropharyngeal diseases. Unlike traditional tobacco- and alcohol-associated head and neck squamous cell carcinomas, HPV-associated malignancies demonstrate distinct clinical, morphological, and molecular characteristics. This presentation explores the oncogenic mechanisms of HPV, with a specific focus on how the viral oncoproteins E6 and E7 drive cellular transformation by disrupting critical tumor suppressor pathways.
