Description:

To do extractions, GPs need expertise to consistently finish cases. It is sometimes hard to know when a “simple” extraction becomes “surgical.” This course provides clarity and certainty. Appropriate case selection includes an evaluation of patient health, medications, tolerance, surgical access, difficulty assessment from a radiographic perspective, and recognition of the GP’s current level of competency. This course targets mandibular molars and canines with methods to remove them that are unknown to many generalists. This course takes participants to a higher level of proficiency.

Description:

Maxillary extractions come with unique circumstances different from the mandibular arch. Some teeth may become slightly mobile but divergent roots won’t allow removal without breaking something. Learn how to section to prevent tooth fracture or bone loss. Abscessed maxillary posterior teeth near the sinus may lack an apical “stop”. Learn how to prevent roots from entering. Perforations are treated according to their size. New bone grafting methods for perforations mitigate complications. Tuberosity fractures of erupted third molars can usually be avoided.

Description:

A pre-requisite for performing simple alveoplasty is the ability to do surgical extractions. The skill-sets are similar. Alveoplasty is easier if the teeth were removed atraumatically. Pathology needs to be removed apically and pericoronally including periodontal disease. Modest flaps are necessary to access coronal bone for smoothing and rounding. Basic alveoplasty also covers frenectomy, minor exostoses excisions, and similar procedures.

Learn to:

• reflect adequate flaps for access to pathology and bone smoothing.
• remove apical and pericoronal pathology to avoid delayed healing.
• smooth sharp bone that would cause denture discomfort.
• prevent complications and delays with patients receiving their dentures.
