Description:

The posterior maxilla presents additional difficulties due to its inherently poor bone quality, ongoing sinus pneumatization, and progressive ridge resorption following tooth loss. This lecture highlights practical surgical approaches and adjunctive technologies that facilitate predictable implant placement in compromised posterior maxillary sites. Through the presentation of clinical cases, the lecture demonstrates the value, indications, and clinical effectiveness of these techniques and tools.

• describe the biological processes and clinical consequences of alveolar ridge resorption following tooth extraction in the posterior maxilla
• identify the indications, advantages, limitations, and clinical applications of ridge splitting techniques for horizontal ridge augmentation
• compare and contrast traditional and contemporary sinus augmentation techniques, including lateral and crestal approaches, based on current evidence and clinical outcomes
• understand and implement the DW classification about sinus morphology for efficient, predictable assessment and treatment planning of posterior maxillary implant cases
